About Julie A Morrison, MD
Dr. Julie Morrison, a board-certified family physician, earned a Doctor of Medicine at The University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio, and a B.S. in biochemistry at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
Dr. Morrison completed an internship in the Department of Internal Medicine, the University of Michigan Health System, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a residency in family medicine at the University of Massachusetts, Fitchburg Family Practice.
“I went into family medicine because of the broad spectrum of care I’m able to provide to patients of all ages and with all conditions,” she says. “It’s fun and interesting to see people grow and change. It’s an honor and a privilege to see patients who are newborns as they grow into their adulthood.”
Dr. Morrison says it also is emotionally rewarding to work with patients with complex medical conditions as they overcome challenges and become healthy again.
“The most rewarding aspect of my career is to provide education to patients, helping them navigate the health care system and understand their medical condition and provide relief for them if they come into the office confused or concerned about their health,” she says. “I’m a big proponent of shared decision-making, which is educating the patient to allow them to come to a decision that’s best for their health while aligning with their goals.”
As Dr. Morrison sees it family physicians are at the center of someone’s care.
“These days health care is a team sport,” she says. “We have to work together as colleagues while the patient is really at the center driving what they want out of their care.”
Dr. Morrison has a particular interest, and additional training and education, in caring for patients with addiction and substance use disorders.
In her free time, Dr. Morrison enjoys spending time with her daughter and family, including traveling to northern New Hampshire to boat and ski.
