About Megan R Carey, MD

Dr. Megan Carey, a family medicine physician, earned a Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Oneida, N.Y., and a Bachelor of Arts in geologic studies from the State University of New York at Geneseo.

Dr. Carey completed her family medicine residency at the University of Rochester in New York.

She provides broad-spectrum preventative care, as well as care for acute and chronic conditions for patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatrics. Dr. Carey’s special interests are women’s health and LGBTQ health, including gender-affirming care.

“What I like about family medicine, in particular, is that there is really a broad range of what I can do,” she says. “I can see a newborn baby one visit and then go in and chat with a woman who just turned 90 years old. It keeps it really fresh and interesting.”

Dr. Carey says the rewards of family and community medicine include “seeing and talking with people from all walks of life and all ages.”

“My ideal patient provider relationship is one that’s a lot more collaborative and team-based,” she says. “I really value people’s input and what they have to say about their own health because if I suggest something that’s not going to work for them it’s not going to be put into practice.”

Dr. Carey is looking forward to meeting new patients. “Over the years I’ve learned to be very humble and approach every patient with curiosity,” she says. “It’s a helpful way to get to know patients better and not assume anything upfront.”

In her free time, she enjoys being outside, hiking, camping, kayaking and surfing.
