Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics

Children may develop or behave differently for a variety of reasons. To help figure this out and promote optimal development, your child may need a specialist with specific training in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

Helping Your Child with Developmental Needs

The Department of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics provides consultations for children from birth through 12 years of age who have developmental challenges. Our experienced Developmental and Behavioral pediatricians will meet one-on-one with your child to assess any developmental challenges and to help promote optimal development. As trained specialists in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, they will spend time with you and your child, often during several visits, to ensure that your child’s and family’s needs are met, and your questions are answered.

Your pediatrician or family doctor may refer you to one of our Developmental and Behavioral Pediatricians for further evaluation. We are proud to provide the community with the services of our experienced Developmental and Behavioral Pediatricians.

Once the referral is reviewed and accepted, our Developmental-Behavioral consultation is divided into three parts.

  1. Parents or guardians submit an intake questionnaire and information, if available, from early supports and services and/or the school.
  2. If it is determined that the referral concerns are appropriate to our program, two visits are scheduled. The first is a parent/guardian only visit (usually a virtual telehealth visit).  This is to discuss the family’s concerns and to obtain further developmental and medical history. Often further information is then requested in the form of standardized questionnaires from the parents, therapists, educators, etc.
  3. The second visit is an in-person assessment/evaluation of the child which includes immediate feedback to the parents/guardians about our findings and recommendations.
