At Elliot’s Pediatric and Adolescent Care Unit, our Pediatric Audiology team of audiologists will provide your child with the latest in screening and pediatric hearing tests in our Level I Pediatric Audiology Diagnostic Center. We perform specialized diagnostic audiology evaluations on babies and young children.
Pediatric audiology is a specialized field of audiology that focuses on evaluating and treating hearing disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. We see infants between 2-6 months of age that have failed their newborn hearing screen in the hospital. Our highly trained pediatric audiologists use age-appropriate methods to test and assess the hearing abilities of children. This testing plays a critical role in early detection of hearing loss, which is essential for the timely intervention and support that can improve speech and language development, social skills, and academic performance. Our pediatric audiologists also work closely with families to provide counseling and recommend suitable hearing aids or other assistive listening devices as needed.
Up to three infants out of every 1,000 will have some type of permanent hearing loss. Early screening and identification allow early intervention which will offer your child better development of their speech, language and literacy.
