Seven Students Complete the ESOL Pre-Apprenticeship Program at The Elliot
We’re thrilled to share that on August 21st, seven Elliot staff members graduated from our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Pre-Apprenticeship Program!
To continue to support the learning and growth of all employees, The Elliot offers this ESOL program for free to staff. Over the course of 12 weeks, students practiced writing in English to improve their fluency, clarity, and conciseness, attended job shadowing presentations for different positions in the healthcare field, including medical assistant, surgical technologist, pharmacy technician, and licensed nursing assistant, and participated in interview prep.
“My experience in the apprenticeship program has been very good because specific topics were covered about the health jobs offered by Elliot Health System and I learned the terminology used in each of them,” said Pablo, a student in the program. “My English has improved since I have used medical terms and their meanings, as well as how to write and understand each one of them.”
Sova, a student in the ESOL program said, “I think this class helped me in so many ways, I got to know new terms for nursing and improved my English. Also, I made friends who I can talk to. I think I wouldn’t have been so confident without this class.” Sova is now attending the LNA for Success program at Manchester Community College!
Elliot Director of Workforce Development and Experience Rebecca Marden said, “We are proud to offer these courses to support the success of our staff. This program is one important way we work to retain our talented staff. We hear time and again how we this investment is helping our staff not only at work, but in their personal lives.”
Congratulations to all our graduates!
