Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week: The Elliot’s Commitment to Workforce Development

At The Elliot, we are proud to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting our partnerships and programs that offer life-changing career opportunities. Through our collaboration with Manchester Community College and ApprenticeshipNH, employees can advance into high-demand healthcare roles, all while earning a paycheck. These "earn while you learn" apprenticeships empower individuals to build new skills and increase their earning potential while enhancing the care we deliver to our patients.

Fast-track your career as a medical assistant

For those interested in joining the growing healthcare field, the apprenticeship model is a game-changer. In just 16 weeks, participants in the medical assistant (MA) apprenticeship program undergo eight weeks of full-time, paid instruction at Manchester Community College. After completing their education, apprentices sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant National Exam. Once certified, they spend four weeks in on-the-job training at a SolutionHealth provider practice, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. This fast-tracked path to a healthcare career opens doors to stability, growth, and meaningful work.

With healthcare projected to grow 15.7% in New Hampshire by 2026, according to NH Economy, apprenticeships help meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals. Our program is just one way we are addressing workforce shortages, while also providing employees with opportunities for advancement.

Kimberly Smith, an MA at Elliot Pain Management and Interventional Spine Center, explains, “The apprenticeship program gave me the opportunity to begin my career as a medical assistant. During the program I felt confident that I was building the skills I needed and would have help finding the right job placement for me. The apprenticeship program was a great foundation to start my career with Elliot Hospital.”

Healthcare apprenticeships: LNAs, PSRs, surgical technicians and pharmacy technicians

We offer additional apprenticeship pathways within our network, including roles such as licensed nursing assistants (LNAs), patient service representatives (PSRs), surgical technicians, and pharmacy technicians. These programs offer on-the-job training that prepares apprentices to excel in these crucial healthcare roles.

Two-time apprentice Jeff Barry says, “I did the LNA apprenticeship program and worked as an LNA for about a year before I started the surgical tech apprenticeship. Being able to get paid while you learn is always a great opportunity. I was able to change careers in my late 20s without having to go back to school full-time. I think a major obstacle in going back to school when you're a working adult is cost, and with the apprenticeship programs, you can avoid that completely. I've had great instructors and mentors along the way who have helped me build confidence in navigating my new career!  The Elliot offers a lot of opportunities.”

Leadership support for apprenticeship programs

At SolutionHealth, we believe in supporting our employees and developing a strong healthcare workforce to better serve our community. We understand the vital role apprenticeships play in workforce development and recognize the value they bring to our organization.

Director of Workforce Development Experience Rebecca Marden says, "Apprentice programs are shaping our workforce and filling essential roles within our organization. With many programs now having a waitlist, The Elliot is establishing itself as a community leader in professional growth."
