NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROGRAM REGISTRATION
The NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROGRAM TM (NRP) is a course designed to teach an evidenced –based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The causes, prevention and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are explained so that health professionals may develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation.
The NRP exam and skills evaluation are based on information obtained from the Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook 6th Edition, which also includes an interactive multi-media DVD-ROM. Prior to the classroom portion of the course, it is the student's responsibility to read the textbook (or view the DVD) and pass the NRP online examination. You will need to complete the online exam during the 30 days before the classroom session. If you complete the exam more than 30 days prior to the class, the exam is invalid and you will have to take it again. You will need to bring your online examination verification with you to the classroom portion of the course or you will not be able to participate.
To access the online exam, Elliot employees will need to go to the HealthStream website to access the exam free of charge. Once you register for the course, you will be assigned the NRP exam in HealthStream. For other learners taking the course, you will need to go to www.aap.org/nrp to take the online exam and will be required to pay a fee.
Following your successful completion of the online exam, you will then be ready for the classroom portion of the course. During the classroom session, you will be expected to demonstrate a mastery of resuscitation skills in the Integrated Skills Station and participate in simulated resuscitation scenarios followed by a debriefing session.
If you are an Elliot employee, the Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook 6 th Edition and the accompanying DVD are available on loan from the Neonatology Department and should be returned to the NRP instructor at the end of the course. Please contact Diane Sanchioni at 663-2692 for the textbook/DVD. Her office is located in the NICU on the 5th Floor of the Elliot Hospital. Non-Elliot employees will need to purchase their own textbook and/or DVD from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
To register for an upcoming course, please select the course date and complete the registration form. Once you are registered, you will receive a letter by e-mail (or mail) to confirm your registration. The letter will also explain the course requirements and instructions on taking the online exam.
